Description

Do you ever wonder what happens to everything you've ever thrown away? Well, if it wasn't recycled or composted, it's very likely sitting in a landfill or floating in our oceans. More waste creates more greenhouse gas emissions which makes the Earth hotter, and causes global climate change. The way we live has a direct impact on the health of our planet. The Zero Waste Challenge is about realizing that issue and changing your lifestyle, one week at a time, to greatly reduce the waste you create.

Are you ready for the challenge? The rules are simple:

  • Register your 1 L Mason jar (or something resembling this) on the Eventbrite registration page before March 25.
  • Between March 25- 31, properly recycle and compost what can be, and collect ALL other waste in your Mason jar
  • Share your prorgess during the week on social media with the hashtag #ZeroWasteHumber (don't forget to tag @SustainHumber on Instagram, Twitter and/or Facebook or send us your pictures)

At the end of the week, on Sunday March 31, the top three contestants with the LEAST amount of waste will win prizes in the order of: a $50 gift certificate to Unboxed Market- the first zero-waste store in Toronto, a dinner for two at the Humber Room, or a free facial at the Humber Spa!

Registration deadline: Sunday, March 24 at 11:59 pm.

We foster a culture of sustainability by leading by example: how we operate our buildings, interact with the physical environment and communities around us, and in the way we teach and learn about sustainability. By incorporating economic, social and environmental sustainability across the college, we are creating career-ready citizens for the challenges of today's world.
